How to Survive an Invasion at Home

Home invasion is a scary thought, especially when there are kids involved. We didn't expect to live through home invasion when we started our journey with installing a home security system. Here's our experience so far.

  2. Lock all valuables. In our bedroom, we keep valuables safe. Even if someone broke into the house, they won’t have access to it.
  3. Keep an eye out on burglars. We live in a neighborhood that has a lot of burglaries. We pay attention to suspicious cars and people.
  4. Have A Backup Plan. If something happens, our family will be taken over financially. We also have a plan that allows us to leave the United States if necessary.
  5. Prepare. You must be prepared if you find yourself in a position where you have to defend your life. Be prepared with food, water, as well as other supplies.
  6. Call 911 First. Call 911 immediately after finding out someone is breaking into your house. It's safer to call the authorities immediately than to wait for them at your door.
  7. Use Common Sense. Do not allow anyone to enter the house if they aren't welcome. Invite strangers only to visit.
  8. Get Help From Neighbors Or Other People In The Area. If you feel unsafe, call your neighbors or friends. They will be able to watch your back and call the police.
  9. Be calm and follow the instructions of police officers. Keep calm and do as the officers direct. Do not flee or resist arrest
  10. Take photos of all evidence. Photograph all evidence you find during the investigation. You can take pictures of fingerprints, blood samples, or other evidence.
  11. Local Law Enforcement. File a report with law enforcement even if no one was injured. You may be able to prevent other crimes.
  12. Call the Insurance Company immediately. Get in touch with your insurance company immediately. Tell your insurance company everything that has happened, and ask them to send an adjuster.
  13. Retire Personal Belongings. Before you leave the scene, remove personal belongings. Don't wear expensive jewelry. Take it off and put it away.
  14. Take Care of Yourself. Make sure you clean up after yourself. Clear away trash and broken glass. Make sure that all doors and windows are securely locked.
  15. Talk about What happened. Talk about what happened to someone else. You never know who might attempt to use this information against later.
